Agartala, October 14 (TIWN): Second consignment of Andhra rice to reach Tripura on Wednesday. Director of Food, Soumitra Bandhapadhaya told that truck loaded with 5 thousand metric ton rice will arrive at Akhaura Check post tomorrow.
Earlier a first consignment of 5 thousand metric ton arrived in the month of August.
After primary inspection in the border from 8am to 9am, the rice will be sent to the Nandannagar FCI godown. In the meantime, Ships from Vishakapatnam reached Ashuganj seaport today.
It is to be mentioned that the three ships carrying 5,000 tones of rice from Visakhapatnam port in Andhra Pradesh reached Kolkata port earlier this week and left Kolkata port for Ashuganj port two days back Tripura Food, Civil Supplies and finance Minister Bhanulal Saha said: "The rice is being ferried via Bangladesh to avoid the long and mountainous surface road up to Tripura via Assam and Meghalaya. As the railway service disrupts, now the way through Bangladesh is a lifeline for import of rice and other essential commodities to Tripura.
