AGARTALA, October 13 (TIWN):The ruling CPI(M)-led Left Front government is uneasy with the ways of the new Governor P.B Acharya. Nagaland governor Acharya holds additional charge of Tripura and visits the state occasionally.
But whenever he comes , Opposition politicians turn up in droves to complain about various actions of the ruling Left . They are joined by leaders of other public organisations who also have their share of ‘debunk Left’ to offer.
“The Governor not only gives them a patient hearing but is known to seriously document all issues of public interest,” said a Raj Bhavan source.
It will not be out of place for the Governor to report the many acts of omission and commission to the Centre.
Recently, the Governor’s helicopter was force to land in a school field in Khowai due to technical snag. Acharya promptly entered the school premises and even shared the midday meal with the students.
“This was clearly an attempt to find out what really happens with education on ground,” said a source close to Acharya.
Being a long time political activist and not a retired official (like many former governors were) makes much difference.
“He is not spending time on retirement, he has a political agenda and he intends to keep the government on the tenterhooks,” says someone who knows Acharya closely.
The Governor during his extensive interaction with the mediapersons and political figures have been very critical of the state of education in Tripura.
He is reportedly of the opinion that though basic infrastructure has been created for spread of education , the quality of education in the state remained poor.
The last time the state government had much trouble with a governor was when Romesh Bhandari, a former foreign secretary, was in the Raj Bhavan.
