AGARTALA, March 30 (TIWN): State Congress has demanded free and fair election in Tripura from Election Commission of India.

The demand came after multiple attacks took place on opposition leaders, activists in Tripura amid model code of conduct.

In a letter to the Election Commission of India, Congress Vice President of Tripura Tapas Dey wrote, “Our party leaders and workers are under constant threat of facing with dire consequences if they dare to participate in the campaign process. This is well reflected by the fact that even the INC candidate from west Tripura parliamentary constituency was attacked by BJP hooligans on 28/03/2019 in Sonamura Sub Division. We would also like to put on record that Shri Shankar Prasad Datta, CPI(M) candidate from west Tripura parliamentary seat was attacked thrice by the BJP rowdies and no action regarding all such incidents have been initiated which has induced the BJP workers in taking law in their hands”.

“The role of the police is such the common people are fast loosing confidence upon them as they have proved themselves to be the stooge of the ruling party  in Tripura. This can be well reflected by the fact that in spite of many incidents of torture, assault and violation of MCC the police has failed to sue motto register cases. They prefer to remain a silent spectator pleasing the bosses”.

“The Chief Minister and other leaders including both the candidates of BJP are openly telling to ensure that human barricades are being created on the day of election to resist electors from approaching the polling booths and identification of those electors have started. These leaders have also instructed the BJP hooligans to ensure that no polling agents of INC or any other political parties should turn up on the day of poll ensuring the free passages for false voting. All these illegal activities are being well designed to avoid the inevitable defeat of the BJP thereby, making the entire election process a farce. There are many officials in the administration on whom we are keeping a close watch because of their partisan activities and those names shall be brought to your knowledge in due course of time”, said the Congress leader to EC.

Congress has demanded these following resolutions :

  1. All polling booths be declared as hypersensitive and be guarded by the CPMF.
  2. All polling booths to be covered by videography under the direct surveillance of the election commission.
  3. Since there is every likelihood of absence of polling agents of the opposition parties and to ensure no false voting takes place the CPMF standing outside the door of the polling booths be entrusted with the tusk of matching the I-Cards of the electors as it is done in all the airports of India. Also, the fingers of all electors taking entry be checked to frustrate the evil design being hatched to avoid false personification.
  4. Constant patrolling of all the ‘Para’s, and villages by CPMF to restore the confidence of electors to turn up for voting.
  5. All Government employees and police persons to exercise their franchise in facilitation centres as were done in the last assembly elections 2018.
  6. The CEO/DEO’s be given strict warning from your end to perform their duties as per election manual and not to be carried away by the dictates of their political bosses in power.
