Eminent lawyer Dilip Sarkar passes away

Agartala, Oct 11 (TIWN): The eminent lawyer and former Public Prosecutor (PP) of High Court- Dilip Sarkar passed away at 82 around 11 am, this morning. He had breathed his last on Saturday morning in his son-in-law’s house at Rajarhat area of Kolkata. He was survived by two sons and wife.

On behalf of the CPI-M state secretariat and many other renowned persons of the state cutting across professions and political identities have expressed 'shock and dismay' over Sarkar's demise and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.

Health Minister- Badal Chowdhury visited his house at Ramnagar, road no-6, this evening and expressed his condolence towards the bereaved family.

Sarkar went to Kolkata on September 18 to spend puja holidays. He was supposed to arrive at Agartala on October 24. Unfortunately, he was suddenly attacked by massive cardiac arrest and breathed his last, this morning.

His body will be taken to Agartala for perform the last rituals on tomorrow morning. Thereafter, the body will be taken from Airport to the High Court, where the members including other senior and junior lawyers of Bar Council of Tripura would pay homage to Sarkar. Of late, the body will be taken to the District and Sessions Court, West Tripura district his residence at Ramnagar, road no-6. Lastly, the body will be taken to the crematorium ground for last rituals.

It is to be mentioned here; late Dilip Sarkar lastly moved the sensational triple murder case as special public prosecutor in favour of the government and proved the case against the owner-cum-editor of Dainik Ganadoot Patrika, who was found guilty.

Sarkar was born at Sabroom sub-division in South Tripura district on the way back July 13, 1983. He had completed BA from MBB College in the year 1960 and then he had moved to Kolkata and completed LLB in the year 1963. After completing his law degree, he started practicing as junior criminal lawyer under the prominent lawyer Nani Chowdhury at the Judicial Magistrate and its subordinate courts in Agartala.

He was nominated as Public Prosecutor (PP) at High Court in the year 1995. He has continued his profession over 20 years as PP. During his well-known career, the state government has nominated Sarkar as special PP to move some complicated criminal cases in favour of the government in District and Sessions Court, West Tripura District. He has excelled his profession as a criminal lawyer for long period and proved his talent in most of the criminal cases.
