Akhaura land port resumes import-export

AGARTALA, October 11, 2014 (TIWN): After a halt of eleven days the Akhaura land port has again stated functioning today. Hundreds of loaded trucks from Bangladesh Ashuganj Port and export through roadways have been waiting to take entry to India.

And the same has turned the Akhaura into a crowded place as large number of labourers, traders, importers and exporters have assembled. As the festivity of Durga Puja and Eid had gripped the state for last eleven days, the same also affected the trade and commercial activities along the border.

The stoppage of import and export from both the sides had created a state of irregularity among the traders of as Akhaura land port is considered as one of the State's most busy and used station for inward and outward trade with the neighboring Bangladesh.   

Joint General Secretary of Akhura land port Import Export India- Association Rajib Uddin Bhuia has said today “More than hundred loaded trucks have been waiting with stones, plastic made goods and other perishable commodities.” Fishes have already been exported from Bangladesh and other articles are waiting to be exported, soon.

Meanwhile, Customs Inspector of the port Lutfur Rahaman further has informed that since Saturday morning fishes worth Rs 80 Lakhs  have been exported to Tripura. More 50 to 60 trucks are likely to reach Tripura within today afternoon.
