Srinagar Boder Haat Inauguration  date postponed from Oct 20 to 7th November

Agartala, October 11 (TIWN): According to latest communication from Ministry of Commerce ,Udyog Bhawan,New Delhi informed Chief Secretary of Tripura that Union Commerce & Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has indicated that 7th November’14 as the suitable day for the inauguration of the Border Haat at Srinagar under Sabroom Sub Division of South Tripura.

"In order to operationalize the Border Haat , it is requested that State Government may initiate the advance preparatory work for requisite infrastructure , in consultation with Department of Revenue (Customs) & Security Agencies. The State Government is also requested to constitute a Haat Management Committee and issue requisite orders regarding exemption from State Government duties / taxes on Border Haat Transactions/Sales. "

The trading post will help people from both sides sell their locally produced goods. The ‘haat' is 30 km from Sabroom Sub Division and 25 Km from  the South Tripura District Head Quarter.Moreover it was decided to have another meeting with Bangladesh representative by October 15 to give the finishing touch to the proposed inaugural programme”.SDM Dutta  said Union Commerce Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the first ever border haat. “We have already selected a site for helipad because Ms Sitharaman is supposed to visit Sabroom by chopper”.

Market sheds have been constructed to facilitate trade by  vendors from each side, who have been identified and trained by both countries to sell their produce. 

Three hundred people from each side will also be allowed to visit the ‘haat' with passes

Apart from that thousands of people are expected to attend this historic inauguration ceremony. Tripura's former Industry & Commerce MInister Jiten Chaudhury played a key role behind this first border hut development at Srinagar.

Total Rs. 2.51 crore has been spent to construct Srinagar border haat which will be second in the entire Northeast region after Meghalaya. Another border haat is waiting for inauguration at Kamalasagar in Sipahijala district.
