Gandacherra, October 5 (TIWN): Panic gripped Girachandrapara, a remote tribal village of Gandacherra subdivision following abduction incident and return of two abducted villagers with ransom letter.
A day before Durga puja, a group of NLFT militants raided a jhum hut at Girachandrapara under Bhagirathpara ADC village around 7.30 pm and kidnapped two brothers- Birendra Tripura (30) and Harendra Tripura at gun point.
According to sources, the ultras retreated towards Bangladesh crossing over Indo-Bangla border (pillar no 2271-72) under the cover of darkness. After receiving the information, a police contingent visited the spot and launched combing operation to rescue the kidnapped persons.
On Saturday morning, Birendra Tripura and Udairam Reang who was kidnapped on September 9 returned home with a ransom letter. In the ransom letter addressed to the chairman of Bhagirathpara ADC village asked to pay Rs. 1.20 lakh as tax for two financial years.
Altogether six villagers were kidnapped from different places of the subdivision since June 28. Villagers of Girachandrapur are scared after they came to know about demand of NLFT militants. According to villagers, recently some TSR posts have been withdrawn from the Indo-Bangla border virtually giving a free run to the militants.
After sudden spurt in militant activities, the BSF authorities have been asked to intensified border vigil to prevent cross border movement of militants. Side by side, TSR jawans have been carrying out special operation to rescue the abducted villagers. Alarmed in the spurt of insurgent activities, District Magistrate (DM), Dhalai Miland Ramteke and the SP would visit Gandacherra subdivision to review the security arrangement in bordering areas.
