Woman assaulted, cops maintain silence
TIWN

Teliamura, Oct 5 (TIWN): In an alarming incident, a woman was severely beaten up by an 8-member group of miscreants in Tripureswari Tiffin House at a place adjacent to Assam-Agartala National Highway under Teliamura sub-division around 10.30 pm, last night. Police played negative role like mute spectators.

Rekha Roy, wife of Samar Roy, residents of Kalitilla under Teliamura police station runs a tiffin shop at the said place. While she was selling tiffin in her shop last night, an 8-member group including two ladies entered into her shop and asked for tiffin. But after serving tiffin to them, she realized that they started drinking alcohol in her shop. Realizing the matter, Rekha stopped them to drinking alcohol. As a result, all the members started eating cooked chicken and other tiffin ingredients without asking her after getting obstruction from Rekha.

Of late, Rekha went to SI Ramlal Rukum, who was on duty for immersion purpose at a distance of 10 minutes from her shop. But the duty police officer allegedly ignored her by saying it happens in puja days. After getting negative response from SI, She returned to her shop and seen the miscreants were behaving rudely with her husband. After that, she went to the SI Ramlal again but didn’t get any help.

Rekha alleged that while she was returning to her shop after informing police for second time, the miscreants allegedly assaulted and physically abused her inhumanely and left her on the road. As a result Rekha received grievous injuries on her head and waist. The group also looted her mobile phone and money from her shop.

Later, the local hawkers took her at the Teliamura Rural Hospital immediately. But interestingly no high police official visited her at the hospital except recording her statement by a SI. She was then referred to GBP hospital. According to Rekha, SI Ramlal Rukum did not carry out his duty accordingly rather than ignoring her for two times.

Further, local journalists informed SP Khowai- Haripada Das about the incident. After hearing about the awful incident, SP assured that necessary action will be taken.

It is to be mentioned here, while the victim reached at Teliamura police station for lodging the complaint today, police allegedly created pressure on her for not to lodge any complaint and they suggested her for mutual understanding, said Rekha. Though police knows all the name of miscreants, still no action has been taken against them. She is undergoing treatment at GBP hospital.
