Agartala, Oct 5 (TIWN): Even after an enormous groundwork by Tripura Traffic Police, road mishap claimed several lives and injured many persons across Tripura during 5-day-long Durga puja festival.
“The exact figure of accidental death is yet to be cleared but more than 30 separate road accidents killed many people and injured over 65 in different parts of Tripura during Durga puja”, a police spokesman told TIWN over telephone here Sunday.
“Though the number of road accidents during Durga puja festival is being decreased in comparison to past 2-3 years, rush and negligence driving of intoxicated bike-riders and small vehicle’s drivers caused maximum number of road accidents in puja days”, said police.
According to the police, most of the bike riders and pillion riders had obtained the fashion of not wearing helmet which leads them to huge damage on their heads after accidents.
Most of the critically injured persons are being admitted in different government hospitals and medicals colleges while many of them have been referred to outside of Tripura for better treatment. The majority of the victims were aged between 19-42 years”, said police.
During the last three years (2011, 2012 and 2013, till August month) as many as 2237 road accidents were registered in the different police stations of Tripura that killed 664 persons. A total of 3081 persons were injured during last three years.
