AMBASSA, 83 BN BSF Camp, October 3 (TIWN): A miracle or god’s grace, but this perhaps is the might of Goddess Durga that when a disastrous earthquake blew off everything alongwith it, an idol of goddess Durga remained intact. The ‘Ashta Dhatu’ (a special metallic substance having eight metals amalgamated into it) Durga idol was discovered by S.B.Thakuri way back in the year 1971 during Indo-Pak war for liberation of Bangladesh. On December 15, 1971 when ‘C’ coy of 83 battalion was retreating after the ceasefire, Ex-Lance Nayek S.B.Thakuri was enlightened by the divine call and went near the debris , dug into it and found a Durga idol weighing about 40 KG. Thereon, wherever the battalion visited they carried on the idol with them. The Durga idol moved with the battalion to many far flung areas of north east India like Mizoram, Kalal and Sunderban. The entire battalion worships the Durga idol with great devotion and reverence. Idol at present is being worshipped at Jawahar nagar, Ambassa, Tripura. 83 Battalion BSF camp.

Now how an idol (made of iron) can withstand such a deadly catastrophe depicts nothing but the divine essence and saga of a silent supreme power. On last October 8 of 2005 an earthquake had hit Tangdhar, a place belonging to India’s Jammu & Kashmir Kupwada (Muzaffarabad) district. The natural calamity not only destroyed huge amount of properties but many casualties and deaths were occurred. But the terrible earthquake could not take on the Durga idol, which remained intact.
