Agartala, October 2 (TIWN): Post-graduate medical students at the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) are used to shadow failures of the GB Hospital authorities, Tripura Doctors’ Forum convener dr. Ashok Sinha said.

The PG medical students don’t have any medical duty roster for them and yet the authorities lied to the court over a case admitted suo motto saying that two MD students - Dr. Prasun Bhattacharjee and Dr. Raja Jamatia from the Department of Medicine were liable for the death of a patient at GB Hospital some 9 months back.

The Tripura Doctors’ Forum today expressed solidarity to the PG medical students at the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and said that senior doctors of the hospital were infamous for throwing away responsibility of their failures on junior doctors and PG students. Forum convener Dr. Sinha urged all PG students of the medical college to restrain from any uninvited decisions that might cause trouble for patients and appealed to continue duty wearing black badges as a sign of protest.

Over 75 Post Graduate (PG) doctors of all departments under Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) on September 30 staged 2 hour long sit-in demonstration in front of the AGMC Principal's office. The agitators later submitted a deputation to the principal’s office demanding hike in stipend, allowance of duty roster and other facilities.

Post graduate medical students at the college are known to be allowed monthly stipend in the range of Rs. 20,000-25,000. Most of the students who have to take an education loan of upto Rs. 8 lakhs despite the government sponsored benefits have to give away a minimum of Rs. 15,000-16,000 as interest etc.

The students demanded stipend at par with national standards. Most medical colleges of the country pay stipends to medical PG students at Rs. 55,000-60,000 per month.
