AGARTALA, October 2 (TIWN):Tripura is reported to consume highest ever power during Puja days. Though, a deficit of 46 megawatt (MW) still exists. However on Thursday talking to TRIPURAINFOWAY.com, Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) had mentioned that no such load shedding of electricity has occurred till now. CMD told that this year the consuming demand of electricity for Tripura on the occasion of Puja days is said to be 261 Megawatt. This is considered as highest ever demand of power in the state. The total amount of deficit is recorded to be 46 Megawatt.CMD also informed that the own power generation at the peak hour is 95 Megawatt and out of this Rukhia contributed 44 from its one unit and Baramura contributed 42MW. The remaining is obtained from the other local sources. From Mizoram and Meghalaya 30 Megawatt and 25 Megawatt are being received.

This borrowed power would be returned to the respective States on the Month of December during Christmas and New Year,  he further added. Other than that 60-65 Megawatt is being supplied from Central Sectors.

Though State lacks adequate power but CMD informed that no such news of power cut is being informed to the power department. But in some parts of the city loadshedding occured for minimal period. According to a top official of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd, this is nothing but some minor local faults. The Department did not wish to spoil the joyous mood of the Puja at night. Due to this they repaired the faulty wires and connection during morning time. That is why power cut arises for sometime during day time. State will remain free from power cut up to Lakshmi Puja- the official further added.

While on the issue of the operational run of Palatana’s second unit CMD informed that though the work has not started yet but in some days the test run will start. It is to be mentioned here that the plant is powered by two turbines each capable of generating 326 MW power. A team of technicians and engineers from the BHEL is engaged in pre-commissioning check-up of the plant along with engineers from the state. The first unit is actively running. The plant’s first unit is capable of injecting 8.7 million units of power per day in the grid. The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) granted provisional tariff for the first unit. The Ministry of Power allocated over 85 percent of the total power generated from the plant to the beneficiary states of the region. Assam is scheduled to get 240 MW. Tripura is entitled to get 196 MW out of the entire production; 79 MW for Meghalaya; 42 MW for Manipur, 27 MW for Nagaland and 22 MW for each of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. 98 MW of the entire production was allocated for merchant sales under OTPC authorization.

A control room is also opened for repairing grievances during Puja days. No complaints of major fault are reported yet. The leaves of all the workers of TSCEL have been put-off for gifting the people a shedding free Puja.
