TIWN Dec 27, 2018

AGARTALA, Dec 27 (TIWN): CPI-M has termed the poll rigging on Municipal election as “robbery†of voting rights and democracy.
“One after one attacks took place since the election result was declared on March 3rd, 2018. But even after every day’s attacks, from police administration no action was taken. Today during poll rigging, few polling personnel attempted to prevent the BJP goons from casting illegal votes, but they didn’t listen to anyone and continued to caste votes in the ballot papers”, said CPI-M State Secretary Gautam Das.
Voters were stopped from casting votes and BJP occupied the booths, illegally entered the booths and continued to cast votes according to their wishes in four Subdivisions : 1) Belonia, 2) Bisalgarh, 3) Santir Bazar, 4) Sadar.
At Bishalgrah, Ex-Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha was slapped by BJP youth supporters. One candidate was hospitalized, sent to TMC hospital in Hapania due to serious condition.
As a result CPI-M candidates were forced to give up elections in those four subdibvisions.
Slamming election commission, Gautam Das said, it’s a shame that the Election Commission even couldn’t manage basic security for the candidates.
