AGARTALA, Dec 22 (TIWN): Tripura High Court has rejected State Govt’s plea to withdraw the stay order on District Magistrate’s order on cancelling publication of “Daily Desher Katha†newspaper, a 40 years old Leftist backed newspaper in Tripura.
After BJP Govt assumed in power, various media houses faced attacks and BJP Law Minister Ratanlal Nath holding a press conference challenged that the publication of “Daily Desher Katha” will be stopped as the paper doesn’t have legal documents in proper way.
Then a petition was filed against the paper centering its RNI issue and owenership but even after getting RNI number at the ultimate time, West District Magistrate had allegedly called RNI office during the hearing and cancelled the publication.
Then a case in counter was filed in High Court by the newspaper under renowned senior advocate Bikash Bhattacharjee and from High Court it was clearly said, in any case of paper issue and other issues, publication can never be stopped as it comes under ‘Freedom of Speech’ and the court stayed West DM’s order on stopping publication. After 10 days of suspension, the newspaper started its publication again.
On yesterday State Govt again urged the High Court to withdraw the stay order on DM’s order regarding publication but Justice Subhasish Talapatra has rejected the plea and “Daily Desher Katha” goes uninterrupted publication.
