AGARTALA, September 29 (TIWN): The sadar sub-division level tribal students merit award distribution programme 2014 was held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan here today. Minister for Agriculture Tribal Welfare Aghore Debbarma inaugurated the programme by lightning the lamp.

Speaking in the programme Minister for Higher Education Tapan Chakraborty said that the state government is spending a huge amount of money in education sector for the development of the students of the state. The students who have secured 60% or above marks will be awarded, he added.

The state government is working for the people of the state regarding education work for. The state government is not getting proper help from the central government regarding education and work, he mentioned.

He further said that the newly formed central government is not taking proper steps regarding the education system of India. Instead of taking any proper steps the central government is busy in making the education system into privatization. If the entire education system goes in the hands of privatization it will destroy the next generation and it will also destroy the base of education system, he added.  

Education plays an important role in bringing tangible benefits by developing the skills of the people. It may expand livelihood opportunities and increase earning potential and thus help in tackling the problem of poverty at large. The major role that education has been able to play is with regard to knowledge inculcation and skill-improvement of the persons, he mentioned.  

A total of 952 tribal students were awarded in the programme. Chief Executive Member of TTAADC Ranjit Debbarma, MLA Pranab Debbarma, Secretary of tribal welfare department L.H. Darlong and chairman of sadar sub-division ST boarding house committee Chitra Debbarma was present in the programme.
