AGARTALA, Nov 9 (TIWN): State Congress on Friday has slammed the BJP Govt for banning the existing currencies of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 through demonetization in 2016.

On 8 November 2016, the Government of India announced the demonetization of all Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi Series. It also announced the issuance of new Rs. 500 and Rs.2000 banknotes in exchange for the demonetized banknotes. On the 2nd anniversary of demonetization, Congress held nationwide protest and observed black day blaming demonetization had ruined the state economy.

Tripura Congress President Birjit Sinha said, " This demonetization was held to make the black money of BJP leaders into white. Amit Shah is an example who turned his 700 crores of black money into white and the common men suffered".

"Each institution under Modi Govt has been tried to be politicized including Supreme Court, CBI RBI", added Birjit Sinha.
