AGARTALA, Oct 7 (TIWN): Direct attacks upon media persons, oppositions in organized manner was never experienced in India before Modi era. In case of Tripura, increasing physical attacks upon journalists, harassment by police, shutting down of media company were never experienced earlier than BJP era.
Above 30 attacks took place upon media persons in last 7 months of the BJP Govt and now state hardly left with any neutral media except due to direct pressure by Chief Minister Biplab Deb.
In Biplab Deb’s earlier mentioned “chop off nails of critics” style attacks upon media persons continue including occupying of Press Clubs illegally without any election.
However, under Biplab Deb Govt such attacks are not new for BJP regime, as various national media have reported, analyzed that under BJP era journalists faced worse cases including arrests.
Not only in case of journalists but in Tripura a bank person was harassed for whole day by police just for posting a protesting status in social media.
Times are tough for journalists in India, where many reporters and editors say it is becoming increasingly difficult to do
their jobs. Loyalists to the country’s powerful Hindu nationalist prime minister, Narendra Modi, have bullied editors into taking down critical stories, hushed government bureaucrats and shifted from the common practice of filing defamation cases to lodging more-serious criminal complaints, which can mean jail time and take years in India’s overburdened court system.
In Tripura recently banned newspaper, TV channels are also a part of such practice.
