AGARTALA, Oct 5 (TIWN): Terming Mod Govt's decision on fuel price down at Rs. 5 is "Not Satisfying" Congress has demanded to bring the price of petrol down at Rs. 60 by cutting the taxes. Congress leader Gopal Roy said the State Govt is unnecessarily imposing 24% tax whereas Central Govt imposed another 19% tax. If taxes of 12% by State Govt and 10% by Central Govt are being cut then the price will be downed at 60. In total now the fuel tax in Tripura is 43%. "Congress want the Govt to reduce the high taxes looting over fuel. What is the necessity of taxing fuel so high ? This down was to fool the mass and an eyewash", Gopal Roy told TIWN. Talking to the bikers before Agartala Petrol pumps, they told TIWN that the price has been downed is good, but it should be more down. Moreover this fuel price down at 5 rupees will not help to down the commodity price and as a result 5 litre down in price ahead of Durga puja is not at all matching the logic which gave by Tripura CM on yesterday. Consumers said that they are happy with the price down but it must be more less. Huge numbers of bikers had been queued up before petrol pumps, whereas same queues were seen of diesel buyers. Diesel buyers raised question at Nagerjala fuel pump, what will happen if from tomorrow again diesel goes high ?

Oppositions had demanded to implement GST on fuel as after increasing 40% fuel price since 2014, Modi Govt decreased Rs. 2.5 and State Govt further Rs. 2.5 petrol / diesel price and Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has called it a "Historical Decision" whereas since 2014 Modi Govt collected Rs. 11 lakh crores from fuel taxes and fuel price is still high.Chief Minister Biplab Deb calling media marking it as "Historical Event" said, "From midnight petrol price will down at Rs. 77.36 which is right now at Rs. 82.36. Diesel price in Tripura is Rs. 75.60 which will be downed at Rs. 70.60 from midnight. It is indeed a historical decision. First of all I thank PM Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley as in such a time the rate has been downed when Durga puja is knocking doors. It has relieved 37 lakhs Tripura people proving Modi Govt is Govt of people".

With unrelenting increase in fuel prices, the government on Thursday decided to effect a cut in the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50 per litre.Finance Minsiter Arun Jaitley announced at a press conference that the cut will be effected through slashing of excise duty to the tune of Rs 1.50 per litre, while the oil marketing companies will absorb the impact to the tune of Re 1 per litre.

Congress earlier had alleged, Modi Govt has looted 11 lakhs crores from Public by taxing fuel.
