AGARTALA, Oct 4 (TIWN): Azad Hind Samiti raised demand of replacing of "State Bank of India" with "Azad Hind Bank" in honour of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose established the Bank of Independence or Azad Hind Bank in 1944 in Rangoon, Burma to manage funds donated by the Indian community across the world for the Liberation of India.

Bank" was inaugurated at Rangoon. It was on this occasion that Netaji used this chair for the first time.

Bose had formed the provisional government of Azad Hind on October 21, 1943. He declared his decision for war against the British and its allies on October 23, 1943, from the radio station of Azad Hind. The provisional government, as a follow-up step, established the National Bank of Azad Hind and struck its own coins and currency notes, among others.

The notes are not in Rupees, and it states 'Good Wishes' which we learn as the promissory notes. These notes were to be used after the liberation of India from British occupation as a form of emergency currency. These notes are very crude, usually only printed on one side. The money collected by the Azad Hind Government was kept in the Bank. The bank had an authorised capital of Rs 50 lakh and a paid-up capital of Rs 25 lakh.

The notes bear various images of Chandra Bose and other leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Captain Lakshmi Swaminathan, the female commander of the INA’s Rani of Jhansi Women's Regiment & Minister for Women's Affairs for the provisional government of Azad Hind, and Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India.

Lastly, A whole collection of stamp, coins, and notes are at Netaji Bhawan. We may never know the truth of many things, more so over about Azad Hind Money where about.

Azad Hind Bank had 25 lakhs as capital and where it was kept and what happened to that money is not known. The office was at Rengoon.
