AGARTALA, Sep 23 (TIWN): Skyrocketing Petrol, Diesel prices , weak Rupee hammering common public in a sharp contrast against BJP’s various JUMLA promises. When commodity price hike has hit the festival season, Tripura woke up to a crude shock on Sunday as fuel prices hit a new lifetime high at Rs. 80.29 rupees and diesel price at Rs. 74.12. The whole week is being reeled a constant up of petrol diesel price in each morning. With the latest hike in prices, Petrol reached at Rs 81 /litre mark in the state capital fueled mass resentment. Apart from fuel price, Tripura is suffering due to excessive Tax hikes on transport, whereas after 6 months of BJP govt no wage, salary hike was possible by the Govt. On the other side, diesel price raised at 73.69 rupees in Tripura. Moreover Govt is collecting around Rs. 1.5 lakh in tax, registration with car purchasing at Rs. 11 lakhs, whereas Rs. 50,000 is taken to buy one 5 lakhs car, which earlier was only Rs. 16,000.

Tax hike, commodity price hike, fare hikes have turned lives miserable, whereas businessmen are facing heavy losses due to down market since 5 to 6 months.

On the other side, urging the Centre to reduce the cess on fuel prices, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced that her government will reduce the state tax on petrol and diesel by Re 1 per litre. But here in Tripura in last 6 months two times taxes were hiked, whereas increased tax is violating the petrol price more.

The Andhra Pradesh government had earlier reduced Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre while Rajasthan slashed tax on fuel by four per cent.

But in case of Tripura, the fuel price has been increased again and again.

The rupee has also moved lower against the dollar, which has made petrol prices in Agartala more expensive than before.

It is hoped that the government can reduce excise duties, so as to enable rates to become more cheaper in the coming days, as already in non-BJP states state govts are reducing taxes on fuel.
