AGARTALA, Sep 19 (TIWN): Two new superspecialty depts namely Urology and Plastic surgery made operational in GB hospital and IGM today.
Health Minister Sudip Barman has unveiled the depts and dedicated for public service.
Dept of Urology : Urology, also known as genitourinary surgery, is the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs.
Common diseases related to Urology are :
- Kidney, Ureteric and bladder stone,
- Congenital Kidney problems,
- Bladder and prostate tumour,
- Urethral injury and structure,
- Penile injury.
Future proposal :
- Superspeciality course in Urology (Mch. Urology),
- Kidney transplant when other allied dept (CTVS, Nephrology) are made operation.
Plastic Surgery : Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two categories. The first is reconstructive surgery which includes craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and the treatment of burns.
Operation conducted in Plastic surgery :
- Hand surgery-trauma and defects,
- Post Traumaric tissue & skinloss coverage,
- Birth defects like --- Cleft lip & palate & hand deformities,
- Post cancer surgery defects correction,
- Burn deformity correction,
- Hypospadias corrections,
- A.V. fistula for haemo-dialysis.
Future proposal :
- Superspeciality course in plastic surgery (Mch. Platic surgery),
- Cosmetic surgery.
