AGARTALA, Sep 16 (TIWN): Ahead of Lok Sabha election “doubling†farmers income slogans are on peak led by Central and BJP led state govts.
But instead of doubling, farmers are not even getting their cost price of their products. In Tripura, already due to flood, massive losses were faced by the famers.
But the way, values of rupees are getting down and commodity prices are rising, what will happen if farmers incomes get double in 2022. From 2014 to 2022, there is huge gap under which the value of rupees have been massively falling.
However, the Cabinet on Saturday approved more pro-farmer initiatives ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The government will have a new umbrella scheme that will also allow private players to procure crop produce at remunerative prices.
Addressing in a press conference, Agriculture Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said, the Central Cabinet also decided to give an additional government guarantee of Rs 16,550 crore for procurement, taking the total to Rs 45,550 crore.
This will ensure remunerative prices to the farmers for their crops as announced in 2018 Union Budget," the Minister said.
