Ujjayanta State Museum to be national Centre of Excellence: CM

AGARTALA, September 18 (TIWN): Steps should be taken to transform the state Museum (Ujjayanta Palace) into a national centre of Excellence, asserted Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, while speaking in the first meeting of the society for the management of the state museum. Through PPT (Powerpoint) presentation highlighted the works which were accomplished during past one year apart from showcasing the developmental plans to be performed in the coming days. This year the State Museum, which presently houses the treasures, sculpture, arts, articles and story of bravery and primitive heritage to princely lives, will celebrate its first anniversary.

The meeting held here at state secretariat, yesterday, where Secretary of Higher Education. Vice President Hamid Ansari inaugurated the iconic royal emblem the Ujjayanta Palace state museum situated at the heart of the capital on last September 25, 2013. 

The entire museum now boast of 14 galleries in which the life styles and sociocultural tradition of the tribes and people of diverse caste of Tripura, demographic diversity, handicrafts , textiles, Tripura’s Rajmala with pictorial depiction of royal culture , their ornaments and ethnic  essence of the historical  State Tripura , which have its roots in the mythological Indian epic Mahabharta, are portrayed.

A separate gallery, which will represent the historical features and an aerial view of the place and people of North East India, is most likely to come up in the next month. Furthermore, the Honorary Adviser of the Society Dr. K.K.Chakraborty has urged to make Ujjayanta Musuem a living museum. “If we just continue by placing some historical objects and displaying old subjects, at a point of time the Musuem will lose its glory and appeal to the visitors and tourists at large ”, museum specialist Mr. Chakraboirty further added.

Besides, the Chief Minister has asked the Society to incorporate educational and economic activity to elevate the status of the State Museum into a Knowledge Centre.   Minister of Higher Education Tapan Chakraborty, Chief Secretary G.Kameswara Rao and Secretary (ICA) Santunu Das were also present in the meeting.
