Agartala, Sept 10 (TIWN): Mystery of suspicious theft or missing of a central processing unit (CPU) of a Computer containing valuable data pertaining to central sponsored schemes under Rural Development and other files from Civil Secretariat at New Capital Complex under New Capital Complex Police Station on Tuesday.

The computer was being used by office of the Rural Development Ministry headed by Naresh Jamatia. Interestingly, theieves have left the other computers untouched giving enough room for suspicion over the motive behind the theft. Reportedly, the central processing unit of a Computer containing vital datas on financial transaction for last 15 years went missing. Concerned circle suspect the involvement of insider into the incident. So far, no complaint on the missing of the CPU has been filed by the Office of the Rural Development Minister with New Capital Complex Police Station.

The central processing unit was taken from the room used by the Rural Development Minister officer. While a local TV channel broadcasted the incident of missing from the office, the Minister denied it.

“I don’t have any report on the incident. I will not comment”, reacted Jamatia tonight over telephone. It is suspected that the incident took place between September 6 and 8 or Saturday night/Monday morning. However, the incident came to light this morning. Even, the cabin had not been broken into. This is first time such incident taking place in the civil secretariat.

“I am suspecting the role of some insiders behind the incident as they targeted this particular central processing unit alone”, claimed opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman tonight over telephone. He termed the incident a mischievous act and urged the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, aho also holds the Home portfolio, to come out clean.

The CCTV footage of the complex should be examined to identify the culprits. Custodians of office from where the device went missing should be questioned”, Roy Barman added. “One may find the ‘stolen/missing’ CPU in one corner next morning. But, the data will surely be erased”, sarcastic Sudip claimed.

“I do not rule out the possibility of some important data available in the stolen CPU. The incident reveals that civil secretariat is not protected. I demand a high level probe into the incident to bring the culprits into light”, maintained former opposition leader and Congress MLA Ratan Lal Nath. “Why had the suspects decamped with the computer parts from the particular section?”, he asked. Ironically, CPIM state unit secretary Bijan Dhar was unavailable for comment over telephone. None of the officials from Rural Development Department were available for comment despite repeated attempts to contact them. Details on the nature of data lost could not be determined.
