Agartala, Sep 10 (TIWN): The administration is likely to take punitive action against the NGOs in the state. The Central government directed the state government to submit the detailed report of the NGOs. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in a few programmes revealed suspicion about the NGOs illegal functioning. The MLAs along with SDMs is likely to go for inspection of the NGOs located under their respective jurisdiction, said official sources.
Mismanagement has been revealed in a number of hostels run by NGOs. The government will be taking action against putting a full stop in those illegal businesses. Food Department Vigilance Team of Khowai, a few days back, along with MLA Samir Deb Sarkar, Khowai SDM Semit Roy Chowdhury, Tulasikhar BAC Chairman Gurupada Debbarma, Tulasikhar BDO Jogeswar Reang visited the Boroibadal NGO conducted Girls’ Hostel. Though, the hostel was supposed to have 100 beds, there was 35 beds only. The rice cooked for the students are three months old. Furthermore, they are not getting meal as per routine.
On the contrary, the Sacred Heart School Hostel is supposed to have the arrangement for 122 students, but no separate arrangement for boys and girls. Besides, the Vigilance Team said that the rooms are not favourable for staying. A number of NGOs with the financial assistance of State Tribal Welfare Department are running hostels. Hence, the government will be taking punitive action against those NGOs.
