‘10323 Teachers case’s Next Hearing on July 1st week, Teachers jobs on ad-hoc basis to be continued up to next hearing’ : Law Secretary Datamohon Jamatia

AGARTALA, June 4 (TIWN): 'Ad-hoc extension' of Tripura's terminated 10,323 teachers case’s final hearing was postponed today at the Supreme Court till July 1st week, 2018. In a telephonic conversation, Tripura Law Secretary Datamohon Jamatia told TIWN, the plea of the state govt was accepted by the Supreme Court today, but seeing the backgrounds of previous hearings and complexity of the case, Supreme Court has postponed the final hearing till July 1st week. The Law Secretary also mentioned, "We told the Supreme Court to extend the ad-hoc job continuation up to 2020, June 30 but no final verdict was given today. The next hearing will be on the 1st week of July, but as the teachers to lose jobs by June 30, Supreme Court has also postponed their termination up to the next hearing. Now we have to wait till July 1st week". However, the Court under Justice PK Pasricha mentioned, “The list on the matter on 2nd July (Monday) but time has been granted by the Court in terms of order dated 14th December, 2017”.

The court order says, the next hearing will be on July 2nd, 2018 but as the teachers termination date is 30th June, 2018, so Justice PK Pasricha said, the ad hoc to be continued till July 2nd, up to the next hearing.

Background of Tripura's 10323 Teachers : 

The 10323 teachers who were terminated with Supreme Court’s final verdict are going to lose their jobs after 30th June 2018 as after 31st December their jobs were increased on ad-hoc basis for more 6 months but that tenure also is going to end on June 30th. 10,323 teachers' jobs were first cancelled by Tripura High Court in 2014 on May 7 after spotting irregularities in the recruitment process, before the issue was taken to Supreme Court by the the CPI-M Govt. 

A division bench of the high court, comprising Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Swapan Chandra Das, had passed then order May 7, 2014 terminating the jobs of 10,323 school teachers after Dec 31, citing irregularities in recruitment and SC has upheld High Court's 2014 verdict.

On March 29, 2017, the Supreme Court also held High Court's order and terminated the teachers. Supreme Court in a humanaitarian gesture to 10323 teachers mentioned that the teachers will continue their jobs till 2017, 31st Dec.

Later with the request of Tripura Govt, the Supreme Court added 6 months of ad hoc basis jobs for the teachers which will be end on June 30, 2018.

Today, the final verdict was postponed up to July 1st week.
