Dharmanagar / Agartala, May 28 (TIWN): In a good news for Tripura, Modi's 'Act-East' Policy is in action as Northeast Frontier Railway has started loading POL (Petroleum products) directly into Tripura with the commissioning of the 1st POL terminal of the state at Dharmanagar.
The terminal is the first in the state which handle the unloading of High Speed Diesel rakes. From the date of opening till date, the siding has handled as many as 225 wagons of 55,000 ltrs (approx) loading capacity each. The High Speed Diesel is loaded from Tinsukia and Bongaigaon.
It may be recalled that it was in 2016, when the railways had to run a never before RO-RO (Roll on - Roll off) service where High Speed Diesel loaded in trucks were transported on flat wagons from Assam to mitigate a fuel crisis in Tripura which had occurred when the state was cut off by road due to landslides caused by heavy rainfall.
It is to be mentioned that there are total 14 POL sidings in Northeast Frontier Railway. Important sidings are at Tinsukia, Leptakata, Bongaigaon, Noonmati, Rangapani, New Jalpaiguri, and Malda Court stations.
