Twipraland demand attempt to create unrest, says ADC chief

AGARTALA, September 6 (TIWN): The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) took charge on Indigenous Peoples Party of Twipra (IPFT) and the demand of separate statehood of Twipraland and said that such interest groups of were trying to create unrest in the state.Speaking at the monsoon session of the Tripura autonomous district council at Khumulwng, Chief Executive Member (CEM) Ranjit Debbarma said in response to a question moved by MDC Sabitri Debbarma that few interest groups were trying to create unrest in the name of separate statehood.He criticized the IPFT and said that a party which didn’t move on a specific ideals of their own couldn’t possibly give any direction to any state. He alleged that a recent rally organized by the party at Agartala called for ethnic genocide.

CEM Ranjit Debbarma claimed that development in the tribal areas was started in the the ruling Left Front government’s regime. “The Congress governments that were in power before the lefts assumed responsibility of the state did nothing for the development of the tribal population. The first phase of development started with the Jana Siksha Andolan and has continued with the subsequent left governments”, he said.

He denied any logic or political viability of Twipraland and said that tribal populations in states like Nagaland and Mizoram are being historically ruled by people from other ethnicities. He urged for greater unity and uniformity of ethnicities in the state.
