Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) begins in Tripura

Agartala, Sep 5 (IANS) A three-day Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) began here Friday. As many as 30 award winning films from seven countries are scheduled to be screened at the gala.

The festival, inaugurated by information and cultural affairs minister Bhanulal Saha, is organised jointly by the Films Division (under the union ministry of information and broadcasting) and the United Films Professionals Association (UFPA), a body of filmmakers, at the newly built Muktadhara auditorium.

"In all, 30 award winning films of seven countries including India would be screened in the three-day festival," UFPA secretary Sanjib Das told reporters.

The 30 movies, comprising documentary, short and animation films made in the last eight years, belong to Australia, Romania, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bangladesh, Azerbaijan and Norway besides India.

"True Love Story" (India), "Ali and the Ball" (Australia), "Music in the Blood" (Romania), "17 Not Required Indians" (UAE), "Are You Listening" (Bangladesh), "9X9" (Azerbaijan) and "Gulabi Gang" (Norway) among other films would be screened at the festival.

The film with the least run time is the three minute-long "Bejinxed", while the longest duration film of 98 minutes is Norway's "Gulabi Gang".

Das said that MIFF was held biennially in India's financial capital Mumbai.
