AGARTALA, May 12 (TIWN): Immediately after assuming charge 2 months back, Chief Minister Biplab Deb announced BJP Govt’s decision of CBI investigation in two Journalist murder cases. After Journalists Santanu Bhaumik, Sudip Datta Bhaumik were brutally murdered, Journalists demanded Justice, even BJP arranged a section of Journalists Delhi visit & meeting with President. But same BJP Govt even after promising CBI investigation, in 2 months failed to send official letter to CBI to start immediate investigation.

After public pressure,UP CM Yogi Adityanath requested CBI investigation against his own rapist MLA Kudip Singh Sengar and CBI taken over investigation within 24 hours but why Biplab Deb’s promise of CBI investigation didn’t even begin after 2 months ? Surprisingly, since BJP assumed power, all the BJP aligned Journalists who were leading protests for CBI investigation during CPI-M era, now chosen to seal their mouths for some unknown reasons. 

Question raises, why it takes more than 2 months to officially order CBI investigation ? After assuming Chief Minister’s seat, Biplab Deb visited Delhi in every week since 2 months but so far failed to officially hand over investigation to CBI. Even though Chief Minister promised, even said he spoke with Prime Minister’s Secretary about CBI investigation but actually CBI is nowhere to be seen because State Govt officially didn’t order CBI investigation.

When a State Govt is serious, within 24 hours it can call CBI to investigate in a case. On September 20, 2017, the journalists murder uproar had been started when SantanuBhaumik, who was working in a TV channel was allegedly killed in a clash at Mandai.

On that time, Journalists begged the then Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to handover the case to CBI as state following the 25 years of CPI-M regime and corrupt police administration left zero-trust on the state police. 

Not only this, Santanu’s body was brought in GB hospital very mercilessly and police allegedly kept their legs on Santanu, it was alleged by state journalists. On that time, the opposition party was BJP, who embraced two hands to help the state’s journalists in their movement.

BJP also demanded CBI probe in journalists murder, but Manik Sarkar denied, rather police gave press jackets to state journalists. After 31 days of Santanu’s murder another veteran print media journalist of Tripura of Syndan newspaper Sudip Datta Bhaumik was killed brutally at the TSR camp.

In that case also no proper investigation was done and thus the states journalists led by senior journalists were bound to visit Delhi demanding CBI investigation in journalists murder. State’s journalists were so determined that they rushed to Delhi led by Syndan Newspaper Editor Subal Dey, Times of India Journalist Biswendu Bhattacharjee, Local TV channel owner Pranab Sarkar, Vanguard channel owner Sebak Bhattacharjee, PhotographerJakir Hossain, The Hindu journalist Sajjad Ali .Journalists met the President of India Ramnath Kovind alleging him regarding the attitude of the state govt towards journalists and hence demanded CBI investigation.

However, ray of hopes after BJP win on March 3^rd that immediately within 10 to 15 days so many people will be arrested, CBI is coming etc. But on March 10 verbally the state govt said that it will handover the cases to CBI, but till day no CBI has come even though 63 days have gone in vain.

In case of Unnao rape case Adityanath Yogi led BJP Govt immediately called CBI and thus Unnao is on the verge of being punished under law, but in case of Tripura either Rose Valley or Journalist murder the CBI couldn’t trace a single person.

After two months questions raised, what the journalists of Tripura got after so many protests, rallies etc ? Handing over a case to CBI is not enough, but “Punishment” and “Logical Conclusion” is necessary. Tripura got nationally limelight after journalists murders but the ending is not going according to the expectations leading frustration among the state’s journalists against the news govt. As after 5 months of wait under CPI-M Govt, now after BJP came it has crossed 7 months but proper investigation is still on Air, as the journalists since the beginning said they have no trust on State Police. 

BJP in its Vision Document had promised for providing free smart phones to all youths as a pre-poll drive, but it’s also proving as fake just as other fake promises including "immediate" CBI investigation in journalists' murder cases.
