AGARTALA, September 4 (TIWN): Complaints were registered against sixty-four Govt departments of the state government at the Information Commission, official sources said.A highly placed source in the state government today said that 15 thousand 548 applicants filed RTI applications in different departments of the state government till August 15, 2014.629 applicants, who were unsatisfied with response pertaining to their applications or were denied from availing a response, lodged complaints against the concerned departments at the Tripura State Information Commission, the source staed.
He added that complaints were lodged against the office of the Director General of Police (DGP), Directorate of Health, Directorate of Industries, Directorate of Food among other key authorities for non-cooperation or insufficient and unsatisfactory responses.
The source further stated that many of the concerned departments denied to give out any information violating the mandate of the Right to Information Act. Few departments tried to wash hands off by stating that the sought information was still being collected.
A separate source said that failure to comply with mandate laid down by the Right to Information might stand tantamount to punishable offence and applications filed by discontented citizens might led to legal actions in ensuing phases.
