AGARTALA, April 29 (TIWN): Tripura State Party (TSP), a separatist party in state Tripura has claimed the Bru or Reang refugees who came in Tripura in before 20 years, were actually from Tripura, who were bound to leave the state during Dumboor hydro-plants construction works.
TSP President Chittaranjan Debbarma while addressing the Agartala Press Club said, “Recently under the new govt, some initiatives have been taken to upgrade river Howrah project. The Govt has decided to introduce a power-plant at the Howrah river source. This is a good initiative, but according to our prior experiences, Dumboor Hydro project, Ramchandranagar industry sector etc led many tribals eviction from those areas making them homeless”.
“Especially during Dumboor Hydro project’s construction many tribals left Tripura and settled down at Assam, Mizoram and other states. Infact the Reang refugees at Kanchanpur who came from Mizoram were actually from Tripura, were evicted during that time. So, we want to remind the govt, nobody should be evicted for the sake of a new project anymore”, Debbarma said.
