INPT announces stir on ADC empowerment, voices anxiety on illegal migration from B’desh

AGARTALA, August 30(TIWN): The Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) today announced a major agitation on September 15 demanding more power to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Inner Line Permit (ILP) for district council areas among other demands.

Speaking about the agitation, INPT general secretary Jagadish Debbarma today said that a rally would be organized from Astabal Ground on the day; the rally would cover the streets of Agartala and end at a gathering in front of the Raj Bhawan where a delegation from the party would submit a memorandum on eight point demands for development of TTAADC to Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya.
The memorandum would be addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jagadish said.
Asked about the significant demands that would be placed by INPT in its memorandum to the Prime Minister, he said that the party would seek transfer of crucial departments including Land Revenue and Settlement, Higher Education to the ADC authorities for institutions in the district council area.
Demands would be placed for reforming the state land revenue and land reforms act and jurisdiction of all land in the district council area should be given to the ADC authorities, Jagadish said referring to the resolution taken at a recent party meeting.
He further said that the INPT is considering to demand implementation border demarcation strategy with Bangladesh devised in the Indira-Mujib Pact, 1971.
Asked about particular interest of the party in the Indira-Mujib pact, the INPT leader said that the party felt illegal immigration from Bangladesh posed a serious threat to the populace living under the
jurisdiction of the district council. “We shall demand for identification and deportation of everybody who migrated from Bangladesh to Tripura and settled in the TTAADC area after 1971”, he said.
