AGARTALA, March 7 (TIWN): Centering Tripura, India unfortunately reeling under post-Babri-mosque demolishing-era like situation, which led thousands of innocent Hindus to be killed in neighboring Bangladesh.
A statue of Dalit icon Bhimrao Ambedkar was vandalized in Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, police said. The incident took place in Khurd village early in the morning and was noticed by villagers and others. Senior district officials rushed to the spot and security forces were deployed in large numbers.
In the same manner bust of BJP icon Syama Prasad Mookerjee was blackened and damaged in Kolkata this morning, the latest in a series of incidents of vandalism that started with the pulling down of statues of communist leader Lenin in Tripura. Syama Prasad Mookerjee was the founder of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh, the predecessor of the ruling BJP.
"6 male and one female ( age 22-29) who tried to deface the bust of dr shyama prasad mukherjee have been arrested from the spot by Kolkata Police and strong legal action initiated. No vandalism would be tolerated", Calcutta Police Chief said.
