AGARTALA, August 29 (TIWN): The Tripura legislative assembly was adjourned after one and a half years on the first day of the ongoing monsoon session on the issue of controversial remarks of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on the judiciary.

Former opposition leader and MLA Ratan lal Nath today tried to raise the issue of statements by Manik Sarkar on Judicial system during the zero hour but Speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath snobbed the issue right away saying the issue was judicial subject. Controversy revolving around statements made by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar couldn’t be raised in the assembly since it didn’t come under thw parliamentary domain, he said.

During the first half of today’s business in the House, Speaker RC Debnath raised a number of notification and reference notices. Opposition MLA Diba Chandra Hrawankhal moved a question on deaths caused by malaria and demanded to know the state government’s take on the issue. He sought strong action against people liable behind the health disaster in response to which Speaker RC Debnath said that according to Article 96, the motion couldn’t be considered valid.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar requested the speaker to allow short notice discussion on the subject following which the latter agreed but by then members of the opposition bench protested and demanded motion on the said issue. On the other hand, in another issue raised by MLA Ratan Lal Nath on the comment of Chief Minister’s remark on judicial system created tension in the assembly. Nath’s motion said that Chief Minister’s remarks on judicial system were not up to the point and the issue called for a discussion.

But the speaker disagreed by saying that Assembly is not the appropriate place to discuss the judiciary issue. Members of the opposition benches staged protest on the issue and expressed discontent by raising slogans in the Well.
