AGARTALA, August 28 (TIWN): All six candidates who submitted nomination papers for the forthcoming by-election at 39 Manu assembly constituency stood valid after the end of scrutiny held at Sabroom Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office today.
Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat here this evening, Chief Electoral Officer Ashutosh Jindal said that Sherring Wangchuk, an IAS officer from Jammu & Kashmir cadre, appointed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) as general observer for the Manu by-election today started his visit at the constituency.
Gopesh Chandra Das, expenditure observer appointed for the constituency, visited his duty-station earlier this month. He would be visiting the constituency from the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers on August 30. Meanwhile, the office of Returning Officer (RO) formed video surveillance teams, video viewing teams, accounting teams, flying squads, static surveillance teams, media certification and monitoring teams, expenditure monitoring control room and call centre to maintain the election code of conduct.
Speaking about the issue today, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Jindal said that no violation of the code of conduct was reported at the Manu assembly constituency till date. Nomination papers submitted for the assembly by-election can be withdrawn latest by August 30. While polling would be conducted on September 13, counting of votes would be done on September 16.
The by-election is slated to use central armed police forces, a source from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said.
