Northeast Assembly Polls : Tripura's re-poll in 6 polling stations on Monday :  Meghalaya & Nagaland Polls on Tuesday

AGARTALA, Feb 25 (TIWN): Security has been beefed up across Northeast keeping the Assembly election ahead. Tripura will undergoing another fresh polling session as after the polling of February 18 was completed, tomorrow the state will undergo re-poll in 6 constituencies according to Election Commission's guidelines. On the next day crucial Assembly Elections to be conducted on February 27 at Nagaland and Manipur.The poll in Nagaland and Meghalaya will be conducted on February 27 whereas the poll results are on March 3rd, the same date for Tripura Election result too.Currently, the Congress is in power in Meghalaya, the Left Front in Tripura and the Nagaland People's Front (NPF) in Nagaland.Tripura's election has been completed on February 18 primarily and tomorrow there are 6 sets of re-polls and on February 27 election to be conducted in the rest two states. Right now, the BJP is in power in Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh in the region.

Securities have been tightened in Tripura too and section 144 have been imposed in 6 polling areas in Tripura. 

The 6 polling centres where the election will be held, EC has kept strict observations. The 6 poll-stations are : 22-Sonamura, 23-Dhanpur, 28-Teliamura, 40-Sabroom,41-Ampinagar, 54-Kadamtala-Kurti, where the election commission has ordered re-polling. Election Commission Secretary Arvind Anand ordered to conduct re-polls in 6 poll-stations of 6 constituencies of Tripura on February 26, i.e. on Monday.

However the state politicians have reacted sharply against the Election Commission's decision. Whereas BJP Sonamura candidate has called the polling personnel as "Uneducated", the CPI-M has called "Criminal-Negligence" of the Election Commission".

In a letter on yesterday night, Arvind Anand Secretary of Chief Election Commission of India told CEO of Tripura , "I am directed to state that on the reports submitted and after taking all material circumstances into account, the Commission hereby the Commission here declares under Sub-Section 2 of Under Section 58 of the representation of the people's act 1951 that the poll taken on 18th February, 2018..... for taking a fresh poll at the said polling stations in accordance with the commission's instructions contained in chapter 13 of Hand Books for returning officers".

In reply via media, Tripura CEO said, "Let's not go for any statement of anybody. 6 polling stations are very less in numbers and nothing is abnormal in this re-poll.

The CEO in Tripura has also confirmed 100 % webcasting of the polls.
