AGARTALA, August 28 (TIWN): People from the poorer sections of society aren’t able to gain access to legal benefits, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar admitted today.Addressing the inaugural session of the new building of the Tripura Law College at the MBB College complex here this afternoon, Chief Minister Sarkar said that people from the lower income group can’t avail facilities of the Court while riches enjoy the benefit of court. “Lawyers should stand beside the poor for help accepting the pangs of less incomeâ€, the CM stated.
He appealed budding lawyers to stand aside distressed people, observing the doctrine that law is equal to all. Sarkar made the appeal and said that the Tripura Housing Board constructed the well furnished building with a financial involvement of Rs. 6.57 crore.
Speaking at the inaugural session, education minister Tapan Chakraborty said that the new location of the Tripura Government Law College is expected to make way for easier and better facilities for the faculties and teachers.
Speaking about the development of law education in the last fifteen years, Chakraborty said that law should be used for benefit of the poor. He described facilities of the court at sub-divisional levels. Law secretary Data Mohan Jamatia welcomed the new building of the law college and said the institute would be exchanging faculties and students with the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS).
