AGARTALA, August 27 (TIWN): Six candidates stood in the fray of by-election at 39 Manu assembly constituency after nomination submission concluded on Wednesday. Congress candidate Mailafru Mog today submitted nomination in the constituency. Trinamool Congress candidate Angthai Mog, INPT candidate Kirtimohan Tripura and IPFT candidate Mithunjoy Tripura submitted nomination papers earlier on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat later this evening, Chief Electoral Officer Ashutosh Jindal said that six nomination papers currently stood valid. The submitted nomination papers would be scrutinized from 11 AM at the Sabroom Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office, he added.
Two former contestants at the constituency and Congress leaders Chandicharan Tripura and Thoikoi Mog accompanied Mailafru during her nomination submission today.
CPI (M) candidate Prabhat Choudhury tendered four nomination papers to Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rajib Dutta earlier on Monday. BJP candidate Nirmal Kumar Tripura submitted nomination on the same day. Expenditure observer appointed to oversee the by-election from ECI – Gopesh Chandra Das visited the constituency earlier this month. He would be visiting his dutystation again on August 28. General observer for the by-poll would be arriving tomorrow as well, the Chief Electoral Officer said.
