AGARTALA, August 26 (TIWN): International Peace Conference was organized by Universal Peace Federation of India (UPF) and Holy Cross College on building nations of peace: our shared responsibility at Nazrul Kalashetra here today.

While speaking in the conference Governor of Tripura Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya said Mahatma Gandhi, the father of our nation was one of the greatest champions of peace in the world. His approach was totally non-violent and he proved by his life and mission that peace is a real possibility. Nelson Mandela is another contemporary champion of peace in the modern times.

 Our world today is torn apart in many areas by wars and conflicts. The hostile feelings towards one another are the result of suspicion and prejudices and imperialist and expansionist ideas. It is a fact that when each one takes up the responsibility to ensure peace in their surroundings, there will be effective peace, he added.  

Delegates from Korea, USA, Japan and from Tripura participated in the conference.
