AGARTALA, Jan 27 (TIWN): National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) Superintendent of Police Soumitra Dhar has been awarded with prestigious President's police medal at New Delhi for his excellent performance under NIA.

Soumitra Dhar is an IPS officer of Tripura cadre currently working in National Investigation Agency, New Delhi under central deputation.

 A 2004 batch IPS officer joined NIA in the year 2015. He has served the premier anti terror investigation agency for the last three years. During his tenure in NIA he actively participated in investigation of ISIS involved cases having pan india presence.

He also headed branch office of NIA at kolkata for a period of one year and remained instrumental in handling cases pertaining to FICN (fake Indian currency notes) smuggling across indo – bangla border. A number of arrests of FIR named FICN racketeers and JMB cadres were ensured during that period.

 He developed a good rapport with local police establishments both state and central and that paid dividends. His Operational achievements were appreciated by supervisory officers in NIA many a times. He was part of Indian delegation in jont task force meeting held in Bangladesh very recently aimed at to curb the menace of FICN smuggling which has assumed the status of terror act by government notification.

He played a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral relationship and mutual cooperation between India and Bangladesh in the field of Transnational crimes within the framework of MoU signed between the two countries in FICN matters.

As recognition of his consistent performance as well as unblemished service spanning more than 26 years, the NIA proposed his name for awarding president police medal for distinguished service in the republic day 2018. Shri Dhar is also due for his promotion in the rank of DIG in state police after completion of fourteen years of all india service in IPS. As humble and honest officer he is quite popular among his colleagues.
