AGARTALA, August 25 (TIWN): Despite of adequate funds, the Unakoti district has been lagging behind in implementation of MGNREGA as compared to other districts.
The delay in work under NREGS seems not to generate at least 50 man-days till the completion of the current financial year, according to officials of the concerned department. Only 15 to 18 man-days work has been generated in Unakoti district till Aug 15.
A one-day training camp was held with the elected Panchayat members of Gournagar block here on Aug 20. REGA cell In-Charge of DM office Animesh Debbarma during the discussion session in the camp said, “While 28 to 30 man-days work was generated in other districts, a less number of man-days were generated in Unakoti district. The work under MGNREGA was interrupted to a great extent due to election procedure.
During the financial year 2011-2012, the Unakoti district attained the first position in implementation of MGNREGA in the country. Questions were raised, though taking first position, why it failed to make any success in the last 4months amidst the unchanged administrative system?
Focusing on NREGS implementation, DM M.K. Nath recently held a high-level meet. In the meeting, the delegates from different Panchayats have undertaken liability and kicked off work. Now, the fact is, whether the job card holders in the next 4 months may enjoy their deserved right.
