AGARTALA, April 6 (TIWN): Cannabis smuggling continues in Tripura amid Tripura Govt’s much hypes on “Nesha Mukt Tripura”. The Khowai police recovered 142 kg of dry ganja after searching the car of Assam. The driver of the car was arrested. The incident took place on Thursday morning at Baijalbari on Khowai--Mohanpur--Agartala road. Police said that on the basis of secret information at around eight o'clock in the morning, police raided a vehicle right in front of the police station of Baijalbari outpost. A bolero lorry of Assam (No. AS--01FC 7405) was searched.
During the search, a total of 17 packets of 142 kg dry ganja were recovered inside a secret chamber box.
The driver of the vehicle was Akhirul Islam (27) has been arrested. He told the police that his house is in Bangaigaon district of Assam. The driver said that the Bolero lorry had gone to Agartala with poultry chicks from Assam. The police arrested the vehicle. Police have filed a case under NDPS against the arrested driver.
