New Delhi, Sep 10 (TIWN) The BJP has fielded city lawyer Priyanka Tibrewal against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Benerjee in the September 30 bypolls for the Bhabanipur assembly constituency seat.
She was one of the petitioners in the post-poll violence cases in the Calcutta high court, which ultimately resulted in the court ordering a CBI probe. Meanwhile, Banerjee is going to file her nomination for the bye-election to the Bhabanipur assembly seat on Friday afternoon. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief needs to win this bye-election to retain her chief ministerial post. While the bye-poll is scheduled on September 30, the counting will be held on October 3. Even though the TMC returned to power with a sweeping victory, winning 213 of 292 seats where polls were held in the recent assembly elections, Banerjee, who had contested from Nandigram in Purba Medinipur lost by 1,956 votes to her protégé-turned-adversary Suvendu Adhikari, who moved to the BJP.
