Karimganj, July 20 (TIWN): Three suspected Bangladeshi nationals were lynched by mob in southern Assam's Karimganj district's Bhubrighat tea estate under Patharkandi PS, allegedly for cattle smuggling. The incident happened on 18 July at midnight 3 am.

Reportedly, on Sunday inside the tea estate situated under Patharkandi PS three Bangladeshi nationals illegally crossed the border and tried to steal cows from inside the tea estate and died in mass beating when the caught by the villagers.“Three unknown suspected Bangladeshi nationals were killed last night by some unknown miscreants at Bogrijan tea estate under Patharkandi police station,” Kumar Sanjit Krishna, Karimganj superintendent of police, said in a written statement.

The place is close to the border with Bangladesh and about 1.5 Km from the nearest police outpost. Police informed that the suspected Bangladeshi nationals had cut the border fence to cross the border, a statement which, however, raised the question about the vigil maintained by the BSF.

It came to know that the suspected three Bangladeshi smugglers allegedly attacked on the villagers after being caught. A few items recovered from them included Bangladesh-made biscuits and bread, rope, wires and fence-cutters, informed by police.

Police informed that follow-up action and further investigation is under process. Talks are being held with the Border Guards of Bangladesh(BGB) through BSF regarding identification of the suspected Bangladeshi nationals, said police.
