7 killed in Agra-Lucknow Expressway accident

Agra, June 28 (TIWN) Seven persons were killed and two dozen injured in a road accident early on Friday on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, police said.

 Speaking to TOI, station house officer of Fatehabad Parvesh Kumar said, "The truck was plying in sidelane at 40-50 km/hr when it was hit by overspeeding double-decker private bus. After the incident, the drivers of both the vehicles fled away, leaving the victims trapped inside the mangled bus.”

"Nearly two dozen passengers were injured and seven were killed. The deceased are yet to be identified,” he added. Sources from the rescue team who reached the spot to extract victims from the mangled bus, claimed, that five victims were found dead, while two died during treatment in S N Medical College of Agra. In the first quarter of 2019, Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority claimed that 36 people lost their lives, while 222 were injured in 402 road accidents on country’s longest expressway. The revelation came from an RTI filed by Agra-based advocate Kishan Chand Jain. According to the RTI, from August 2017 to March 2019, total 2,368 road accidents were reported due to over speeding, falling asleep on steering wheel and tyre burst. In total 227 men, women and children were killed.
