Javicia Leslie is first Black actress to play Batwoman

Los Angeles, July 9 (TIWN) Actress Javicia Leslie has been cast as the new Batwoman in the superhero series, becoming the first Black actress to portray the superhero in a live-action television or film production.

Bisexual actress Javicia, 33, enthused she's 'extremely proud to be the first black actress to play the iconic role' in a statement on Wednesday  The CW show saw Australian model Ruby, 34, portray lead character Kate Kane/Batwoman - the cousin of Batman's alter ego - for its first season  The thespian, whose credits include CBS sitcom God Friended Me and BET's The Family Business, will make her debut in January 2021 Before Javicia, black actress Kimberly Brooks voiced the superhero in the 2003 direct-to-video animated movie Batman: Mystery Of The Batwoman   Batwoman was introduced in 2006 in the seventh week of the DC Comics' year-long weekly book
