Mumbai, May 27 (TIWN): Vodafone is going through a rough patch lately in terms of market share in the telecom sector. The company, despite its merger with Idea, is losing its subscribers at a fast rate. However, the Vodafone is still having a majority of the market under its hands to ensure it stays that way, it is offering additional benefits to its postpaid and prepaid subscribers. Postpaid subscribers are already entitled to free benefits such as free membership to Amazon Prime and Netflix whereas prepaid counterparts aren't that lucky. Turns out Vodafone wants to change that.
No, Vodafone is still not offering a free subscription to any third-party service. However, it has brought back its Youth offer on Amazon Prime. This means that young Vodafone subscribers will be entitled to get the yearly Amazon Prime subscription at a very affordable price of Rs 499. This is almost a 50 per cent price cut on the yearly subscription amount of Rs 999.
However, as you must have guessed it, there's a catch. This offer is only valid for young subscribers who age between 18 years to 24 years. Therefore, for those subscribers who are older than 24 years, the offer is invalid. Plus, this offer is only applicable until June 30, 2019. Additionally, the offer is only available for Vodafone prepaid users - Idea prepaid users are out of luck.
In comparison, Vodafone is offering the Prime subscription for free on its postpaid plans starting from Rs 399 and above. Therefore, postpaid subscribers are getting for free without any cost. That's a massive benefit, considering that the Amazon Prime membership offers a lot in its yearly subscription. Subscribers get access to Amazon's Prime service, Kindle, Prime Video and Prime Music without any ads. Prime Video in itself is a bigger deal as it offers a lot of exclusive shows and movies.
With this offer, Vodafone intends to tap on young subscribers and retain them for long. However, for almost similar or lower prices, rival Reliance Jio offers much more for free. With any Jio prepaid or postpaid plan, subscribers get complimentary access to Jio apps, including the popular JioTV app, JioCinema, AJio, JioSaavn premium subscription for 90 days and other Jio apps. Airtel isn't behind on this front and is also offering a month's free subscription to Amazon Prime with its Rs 299 prepaid plan. Hence, Vodafone's offer may not that much of a great deal to lure subscribers from other operators.
