AGARTALA, Nov 19(TIWN Exclusive): Dr K. Saleem Ali, Special Director, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and former Director General of Tripura Police who is in Tripura before retirement from CBI had an exclusive talk with TIWN in State Guest House on Monday.

Recalling his tryst with Tripura, the officer disclosed that he had foundation training here after joining the service 35 years ago. “The state helped me learn the nitty gritty of the job and it’s due to the practical training received here I could successfully perform many roles in my career”, the officer said.

Speaking about Tripura police he stated,” State police is a very efficient uniformed force in the country. The motivation level is high and so the morale. Several measures are taken to make it into lean, mean and strong machinery”

Former DGP stressed upon the men of Tripura Police to devote themselves for the service of the society and work for the integrity of the nation and keep the flag of the organization afloat.

The department has stead at par with the premier police agencies of the country and Tripura police a model police force in the country. Mr. Ali said that police has worked on forefront for the protection of life and property of the people in the times when militancy was at its peak.

 He said that the force took militancy as a challenge, gave supreme sacrifices of its jawans and officers to bring peace and normalcy in the State.

Speaking about the modern day challenges of police CBI special director said, “Now-a-days the criminals and anti-national elements are using computers, mobiles and lap tops, I mean all the means available in cybernetics. We have to be geared up for all and be a couple of steps ahead of the criminal and evil mind”. The burgeoning population and urbanization, the city’s social structure will change many equations in the coming years observed Dr.Ali. .

He says that the crime profile of all metro cities keeps changing and will change in Agartala too. Like terrorism, he says, was a problem started from ’80s; it reared its ugly head in the ’90s.”We  were in doubt whether ever lasting peace will  come in Tripura but our doubt proved wrong, now it is one of the peaceful state in the country” he added.      

 “Cyber-crime is a new phenomenon. With the Internet being used so widely and the banking sector growing, new forms of crime will emerge. To tackle such crimes, the police will have to train themselves accordingly. Cyber offences, like terrorism and underworld, came into existence in the ’90s, spurring the need for a dedicated cybercrime cell .Policemen have to be trained and must keep themselves upgraded with emerging technologies,” said Dr. Ali

Dr. K Saleem Ali, a 1978-batch IPS officer from Manipur-Tripura cadre, held various positions in Tripura - SP of North Tripura, South Tripura and West Tripura and in Special Branch. He has served as IGP (Armed Police, Operations and Law and Order) and DGP,

He has also served as inspector general of Indo-Tibetan Border Police during which he was awarded gold, silver and bronze discs. He has been decorated with the police medal for meritorious service and the President's police medal for distinguished service.
