National report reveals BJP losing wave | AGARTALA, Jan 22 (TIWN): In a national report filed by BusinessLine, 2 states have been found where BJP is losing its all popularity in fastest manner. Two years after assuming power, the Biplab Deb-led government in Tripura is becoming increasingly unpopular with both tribals and Bengalis. In West Bengal, where the BJP recorded a massive gain from two seats to 18 seats in the Lok Sabha election six months ago, seems to be in a state of mess, a national report has revealed.Something is not going right for the BJP in both States where the party has come to prominence without any political history. It might be tempting to link the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 (CAA), but the truth is there is little connection between the two. CAA is essentially applicable to Hindu refugees from East Pakistan and Bangladesh. Naturally, there is ground support in favour of the Act in both the States. | 21-Jan-2020 |
From Custodial murders to beating auto d | AGARTALA, Jan 21 (TIWN): An auto driver who violated laws by carrying extra passengers from Battala was beaten by traffic police but when asked, police further said, the person was violating laws and that’s the excuse of beating an auto driver. Violation of rules by auto drivers have turned public lives hell but point is whether police can misuse power like this or not according to the constitution or nor. But the same police when ended up with custodial alleged murder incidents, turn numb before the politicians who often during election on camera have threatened many police officers in last 21 months. From MP Pratima Bhowmik’s rigging episode to MLA Mimi Majumder’s threatening to police officials inside 200 metres of booths, Ram Prasad Pal like leaders threatening police to go away during election only raised criminalism in the politics and now turning Tripura Police too violent before the masses. From the Govt side, it was argued that at least 90 days a person can be kept in jail and thus 15 days can be added easily, but they could cite any reason why Badal Chowdhury should be kept in jailâ€. “We tried to explain to the court that the whole issue was done following processes and thus there is nothing to be hide.
